The Bear Dance | holiday card
A lovely illustrated holiday card inspired by Romanian folk motives and traditions.
“The bear dance” ~ is a Romanian folk tradition that has its origins in the rituals of the Geto-Dacian ancient people who considered the bear a sacred animal. This custom is still present in Romania around Christmas, especially in the Bucovina area, and consists of a group of young men and women disguised as bears, bear-leaders, plovers, and drummers. The ritual represents the bear’s death and rebirth, which symbolizes the new year that is about to come.
